Totally surprised by how nice this place was. Riverside cabins seem to be best option for 2 people. Nice views and a private deck. Shared bathroom facilities were very clean. My overall experience here was almost as good as the room I paid $650 /night for in Franz Josef (except to be fair, that room included an incredible 5 course dinner. The food cart on the property was also impressive. Had a fish cake for dinner that was amazing. The enormous beach is only a few steps away and could hear the waves crashing from our cabin. There national park (pancake rocks) is just a short walk away. Definitely don't want to miss a stop there.

Stayed for 2 nights. Really busy in both evenings but no one here during the day. We’re travelling with an infant and it was a great place to chill for a day. Great access to pancake rocks and the Paparoa track for a run. On a really nice beach too.

Great location with friendly staff . Big sites for campers. Short walk to beach. Idyllic setting below the stunning hills around Punakaiki . Only issue was not having hot water in the shower block. Both in the evening and morning. It was peak season however so the system may have been depleted. Highly recommend.

Camped here- amazing location. Be sure to wait for the incoming tide to get the most out of the river. The showers were a bit hit and miss but other than that it was a good place to stay. Lots to do in walking distance.

Perfect location for all things to do on Punakaiki. Campsites spacious. Bathrooms and kitchen clean but old and could do do with an upgrade. They haven’t changed in 20 years. Slight problem with hot water in the ladies showers while we were there. Lovely, relaxed staff. Would recommend, just be prepared for some old Kiwi ambiance.

Great spot. I used to come here as a kid 30+ years ago and it's still a fantastic place to stay. Lovely to hear the waves crashing at night. Excellent facilities which aren't too busy.

Very friendly staff. Well spaced out sites. Showers and bathroom got a little soiled during the evening, however, were still usable. When we were there a food truck sold white bait and it was delicious. Don't miss out on the sunset at the beach. Absolutely stunning. Beware of seagulls and wekas stealing your food.
